Research Recruitment

In this area of the website, it will be possible to find details of current and forthcoming research including those where people with eczema and their carers can participate. See below for contacts, links and further information - and do check back for new initiatives as we hear of them.

Do you have hand eczema/dermatitis?  Or do you know someone who has?

The National Eczema Society is working with www.myhandeczema.co.uk to find out more about the effects hand eczema has on the lives of sufferers. Hand eczema is a painful and debilitating condition that can stop people leading a normal everyday life – even opening a jar, bathing a child or shaking hands with someone can be difficult if not impossible. Some people may even be forced to give up work because their condition is so severe.

If you suffer from eczema on the hands, we’d like you to invite you to take part in this quick survey to help us find out more about how it affects your everyday life. For everyone who completes the survey  www.myhandeczema.co.uk will make a £5 donation to the National Eczema Society on your behalf. To complete the survey go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/handeczemaaug10 - thank you for your participation.

www.myhandeczema.co.uk is a website dedicated to helping hand eczema sufferers manage their condition and it offers advice on different treatments. It is supported by Basilea Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

BEEP - Barrier Enhancement for Eczema Prevention

BEEP Study Logo

Has anyone in your family ever suffered from eczema, asthma or hay-fever?  Do you live in the East Midlands?  This study could be right up your street; click here for details of how to apply.

Are you an adult living with atopic eczema?

Atopic-Eczema

Hope Hospital Dermatology Centre (Manchester) needs your help!

The Centre is undertaking an exciting new study looking at whether application of a molecule, normally found in food, onto your skin may help improve the barrier function of your skin.

It is understood that the skin of people with Atopic Dermatitis (AD) does not act as an efficient barrier against chemicals and microbes that can enter your skin. This study examines whether application of a molecule onto your skin may improve its barrier function.

The study is looking for volunteers with moderate to severe eczema on their forearms or legs.  Please click here to see the poster invitation containing contact details to register your interest.

Does your child suffer from Eczema?

Treating childhood eczema is often a complex business for parents, involving a range of products and methods. Now, a lotion that has a novel method of reaching and calming inflammation and itching in the deep skin layers is to be tested across the UK.

This new lotion uses a well-established active ingredient which has been successful in asthma and other allergy treatments; the trial will record how effective the lotion is against varying severities of eczema and also whether its use reduces the need for other medication.

The trial involves daily home monitoring and seven visits to a specialist NHS assessor; it extends over a period of sixteen weeks and is for children with atopic eczema aged 2-12.

Participants in the National trial are currently being recruited from the Dundee, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Nuneaton, Enfield and Central London areas – so if you live there and you’re interested, call 0800 232 1774  for information. For a pdf with further details, just click HERE.

*This is a commercially sponsored study.
