Copies of the booklet are available free to members as part of your annual membership fee. However, for a limited period – until the 30 October – the booklet will also be promoted to non-members to encourage them to learn about, support and join the Society. After 18 September 2010, copies can be ordered free of charge from our online shop www.eczema.org/shop or, alternatively, you can call our freephone helpline on 0800 089 1122.
More than ever this year we need you to help spread the word far and wide about the benefits of joining and supporting the National Eczema Society. Together we can help our Society to become stronger, give patients and carers a louder voice and secure the future of the only patient charity for those with eczema in the UK.
This year we’re asking you to do three key things to mark the week:
1. The simple act of passing on our freephone helpline number and website details can literally transform someone’s life. Why not tell family, friends and colleagues about our free Living with Eczema booklet and let them experience first hand the help and support we provide?
2. Each year our Bonanza Cash Draw helps raise vital funding for our core services – including the helpline, website and healthcare professional training – as well as updating and printing our unique range of publications. At just £1 a ticket this is a quick and easy method of fundraising and the pounds soon add up! By selling all 20 tickets included with this edition, you would be helping us to take an extra 5 helpline calls or send out 20 booklets. For extra tickets call us on 0207 281 3553 or email fundraising@eczema.org
3. Finally, it’s often said that the simplest ideas are the best and, when it comes to raising money for charity, the humble collection tin is a powerful tool. However, despite street collections remaining the most popular method of donating to charity, very few people organise one to mark National Eczema Society Week.
If you can spare a few hours to man a collection we’d be delighted to supply collection tins, posters, leaflets, balloons and stickers to help you create an eye catching display and generate interest from passers by.
In most cases, you will need to obtain permission for your collection. Decide on your location – the busier, the better! – and then contact the following with your request:
If you want to hold a street collection you will need to contact your Local Authority to obtain a permit. Permits are free and, due to high demand, it is recommended that you make contact as soon as possible with them.
If you want to collect at a London underground station you will need to approach the Charity Co-ordinator at the London Underground Service Centre. Requests must be written on headed paper (please contact us for this) and include the charity’s registration number, address and phone number plus your own contact details.
When applying for more than one station you must submit a list of chosen stations and dates, specifying whether the collection will take place in the morning or afternoon. The Charity Co-ordinator will then send you a letter of authorisation to collect at the chosen station(s) on the specific date(s).
The Station Supervisor will be notified in advance of your arrival and collections may only take place in the ticket hall area. Once the collection has been completed a record must be made of the amount collected and this information must be returned to the Charity Co-ordinator.
